Last minute War Ukraine: twist in the war: the Ukrainian offensive that has surprised Russia

Ukraine has taken the initiative in the war with Russia with its counterattacks in the south and east of the country and after changing the situation on the front, after a summer of positional fighting in Donbas, it is preparing to continue the offensive.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has assured that after the advances this Saturday in Kharkov, this Sunday Russian forces withdrew from several towns in Kherson province.

Russian forces are now limited to aerial reconnaissance and sabotage missions to hinder the Ukrainian offensive, according to kyiv.

“The war is not going according to plan”

The Russian defense ministry has a hard time acknowledging defeats, but they do admit that the war is not going according to plan. The Russian defense ministry described its withdrawal from the Kharkov region as a “regrouping.

On the other hand, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeri Zaluzhni, assures that “in the direction of Kharkov we began to advance not only to the south and east, but also to the north. There are 50 kilometers left to the state border.”

Zelensky promises a “rapid unemployment”

For his part, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskypredicts a “rapid vacancy” of the country this winter as the Russians “are fleeing in some directions.”

For Zelenski, “this winter is a turning point and can lead to a rapid de-occupation of the Ukraine (…) If we were a little stronger with arms, we could de-occupy faster”.

The Ukrainian command found that “the enemy continues to suffer losses” after being “without support measures and entering a state of panic.”

Defeat of the Russian forces

The American Institute for War Studies (ISW) states that “the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kharkov region is defeating the Russian forces and collapsing the northern axis of pro-Russian Donbas.”

“They are not carrying out a controlled withdrawal and are fleeing in a hurry from the south-east of the Kharkiv region to escape the encirclement of Izyum.”

According to the think tank, Ukrainian territorial gains in the last five days have been higher than those of the Russian forces “in all their operations since April.”
