One of the most annoying situations that a person goes through user occurs when insert your USB into a computer and the message “drive is write protected” appears. It is a notice that for many it is inopportune, especially if it is required to pass the files with great urgency. However, you should know that there are several methods to solve it and in this note we will show them to you.
Do the virus scan
You should scan your flash drive for any virus that blocks access to the drive, especially if it has been connected to public computers.
Viruses can fill the drive with files and thus it will be impossible to use the memory normally. Therefore, you must tell the antivirus to scan the flash drive and then clean it.
Check your USB
Some USBs have a switch that can turn write protect mode on or off. It is small, sliding and resides, in most cases, on the side of the device.
Just flip the switch to the unlock position to be able to write to the drive without restriction.
Disable write protection
It can also happen that the read error arose because the folders had the option Read only. By revoking this parameter, the files will be accessible to the pendrive.
To disable the feature, right-click the element, select properties, and click the Read-Only checkbox. Tap on apply and finally on accept.
Format the memory
It is the last option to follow because your files will disappear. Look for the Properties button and then tap on the File system section. Then follow these brief instructions:
- Right click on the USB drive and select Format.
- They will show you multiple customizable options.
- Uncheck the Quick format option to make the process more intense.
- Tap Start for the format to start.
