Food alert: Health withdraws from sale this well-known microwave popcorn from all supermarkets

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has launched a new food alert, in relation to some microwave popcorn sold in DIA supermarkets. The body has ordered the immediate withdrawal of a batch distributed in nine Autonomous Communities.

The affected product corresponds to the name of Snack Maniac Popcorn with salt, packaged in a plastic bag weighing 80 grams, with batch number 22213 and with a best before date of January 31, 2023, according to AESAN in its food alert network.

The product has been distributed in the Autonomous Communities of Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid and Valencian Community. The alert is aimed at people allergic to milk proteins, an allergen that has not been included in the product’s labeling, so it can be very harmful for those with this intolerance.

The agency indicates that the information has been communicated to the health authorities of the communities involved through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI)with the aim of verifying the withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels“.

AESAN’s warning

Before the publication of this food alert in relation to this product from DIA supermarkets, the AESAN has recommended people allergic to milk proteins, that could have the product in their homes, that they refrain from consuming it. In addition, it has indicated that, for the population in general, which does not present this food intolerance, its consumption does not imply “no risk”.
