The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskydenounced this Wednesday before the UN General Assembly the Russian invasion and the destruction it has caused and demanded from the rest of the world a punishment for Moscow.
“A crime has been committed against Ukraine and we demand fair punishment”Zelensky said at the start of a video message with which he is speaking this year at meetings of international leaders at the United Nations. That punishment, he pointed out, must be translated into sanctions, a blockade of trade and relations with Moscow, the withdrawal of their right to vote in international bodies, restrictions on visas for Russians or the creation of a special court to judge the crimes committed. , among other things.
Dressed in his usual military shirt and speaking in English, the Ukrainian president insisted that his country “wants peace”, but he has been forced to fight and is demonstrating “his strength on the battlefield.”
Zelensky closed the door at this time to a possible negotiation with Russia, insisting that when Moscow talks about dialogue the only thing it is looking for is to gain time to regroup. He assured that Russia wants to spend the winter in the territories it has occupied to prepare another offensive or at least reinforce its positions, for which he ruled out a cessation of hostilities and asked for more military support from his allies in order to continue liberating their country.
“We cannot accept delaying the war,” said Zelensky, who insisted that when Russia talks about negotiations, the only thing it is looking for is to gain time. That is why the Ukrainian leader requested more military support, especially long-range weapons and air defenses, and greater financial support to be able to maintain internal stability and help its population.
